Hey!... Who Provides the Baby Shower Favors? Baby Shower budgets photo

Are you considering a few trendy baby shower ideas and maybe even some hip baby shower favors?  Why not! If you are wondering just who provides baby shower favors?.. Please read on...

All baby showers don't have to be potluck gatherings with a few close friends and family members as they might have been in covered wagon days.  Many of today's baby showers are elaborate, special occasions complete with food, entertainment, themes, games, hip baby shower favors, professional talent and more. It's easy to see that, if someone's not watching the financial side of things, costs can easily escalate out of control.

Mommy's Gift from the Host

Traditionally, all expenses related to the baby shower are paid by the host. The host, brave soul, is the one who plans and oversees the affair.  And yes, the host is responsible for providing the baby shower favors. The shower its self should be considered the host's gift to the mother-to-be. But you better face facts, the more formal the affair, the more it's going to cost.

This is a very special occasion, so it's important for the host to put together a baby shower budget. I know, nobody likes to worry about costs, but even on a tight budget you can throw a baby shower that will be memorable.  Of course, it's important that the guests have fun, but a baby shower is first and foremost about being together with the people who mean the most to the expectant mother.

Sticking to a pre-defined budget, even if it's a big one, is definitely going to help with some of the decision-making. For example, a budget will help keep the guest list from growing ridiculously out of control. A host might not realize it, but the overall cost of the baby shower will increase every time another guest is added onto the list.

A budget will also help the host with important decisions.  Decisions like whether to order custom-printed invitations or to pick up several ready-made packages from the local card store and fill them out by hand.

Co-Hosting Is the Answer

Arranging for several baby shower hosts instead of just one is becoming a popular option. When a baby shower is co-hosted by several people, generally they all will share the party expenses. Together the co-hosts decide who will cover the various expenses involved with the shower.

Another option, but one that's sometimes more difficult to control, is to pool the co-hosts' money and use it jointly. Each host contributes a mutually-agreed upon amount to the shower fund and the expenditures are deducted from that joint fund.

Asking others to help fund a baby shower is something that must be handled with tact. It's never a good idea to ask the mother-to-be or her partner to help with expenses.  You certainly would not ask someone who you know is struggling financially.

It's always much easier when others who are close to the expectant mother volunteer their assistance, rather than having to ask for it. In these situations, the host should not feel uncomfortable when accepting money if she needs it... or any other help they be offering.  As you begin thinking about a shower mention it to all of your and the mother-to-be's friends.  Chances are at least one or two will enjoy being a co-host and volunteer.

Besides money, there are other ways people can help. They can bring food and drink (potlucks are still popular) or they can contribute their time rather than their money.  All of that will be of tremendous help to those hosting the bridal shower. Be sure to factor in other people's help, whether financial or otherwise, when planning your baby shower budget.

And now you know just who provides baby shower favors?  Just make sure they are in the budget!
